Cowboys defensive coordinator becomes the 12th person to interview for the Los Angeles Chargers vacancy.

The Chargers announced a virtual chat with Quinn on Friday. He is the fifth candidate with previous head coaching experience in college or the NFL, following University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, former Stanford coach David Shaw, former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel, and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, who has coached Arizona and Carolina.

Los Angeles has chosen a first-time coach the last three occasions. The last time it didn’t happen was when Norv Turner was elevated to offensive coordinator in 2007.

The Chargers are looking for a new coach and general manager after firing Brandon Staley and Tom Telesco on December 15, one day after losing 63-21 in Las Vegas.

Quinn recently completed his third season with the Cowboys.

Along with Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, and Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, the Chargers have also conducted interviews with two in-house candidates: interim coach Giff Smith and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Co-director of player personnel for the Chicago Bears Jeff King was the ninth candidate to interview for general manager on Friday. He joins Baltimore’s director of player personnel Brandon Brown, New York Giants assistant general manager JoJo Wooden, and Assistant general manager Ed Dodds of the Indianapolis Colts, assistant general manager of the New Orleans Saints, Jeff Ireland of the New Orleans Saints, Terrance Gray of Buffalo’s player personnel department, and Joe Hortiz of Chicago.
