AO: Novak Djokovic vs. Adrian Mannarino score and result: Serbian eases into quarter-finals of Australian Open despite health worries.
Novak Djokovic easily defeated Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 to get to the Australian Open quarterfinals.
The Serbian has struggled with injuries during and after the tournament, and although he was observed having several conversations with his worried coaches in the press box, his health issues did not show up on the scoreboard.
Despite health worries, Novak Djokovic easily advances to the Australian Open quarterfinals. The triumph in Mannarino’s first game of the match did not come until the third set, which caused exuberant emotions in the Rod Laver Arena spectators.
However, Djokovic had already completed his hour and forty-four minutes on the court when he easily won in straight sets, causing irreparable harm by that point.
Even with the win, Djokovic appeared vulnerable in long rallies; Jim Courier noted on Nine’s commentary that the 24-time Grand Slam champion was clearly having trouble.
“Djokovic is one of the most silent assassins we have seen in tennis – he doesn’t grunt until late in the match or if the point gets really long,” the Courier reported.
The first three games of the match saw a fierce struggle between the two veterans, setting up spectators for a close encounter.
Though Mannarino had no answers for the Serbian’s efficiency, Djokovic sprinted away from the 20th seed to bagel him in the first set. In the second, he repeated the same.
“Something is still not right inside his body because his energy levels are not what we are used to seeing,” the Courier reported.
Although it might not be visible on the scoreboard, Novak is demonstrating his mental tenacity. He is making an effort to be as productive as he can.”
