Art Rooney II says Kenny Pickett needs to focus on scoring more points in his next step.
Quarterback Kenny Pickett didn’t have the season that many people wanted him to have in his second year. After doing really well in his first year and having a great start to the new season, he didn’t do so well when the regular games started. Don’t need to search anymore because the Steelers have fired their offensive coordinator during the season, which has never happened before for the team. Matt Canada wasn’t making things better, but Pickett is also responsible for the big decision. Art Rooney II talked to Bob Pompeani from KDKA and was asked about what Pickett’s next step will be. He gave a very direct answer.
Rooney said the next step is to score more points every week. “Improve our offense and keep doing what we did well this year, like controlling the ball and running effectively. ” But also, achieving more touchdowns.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking for a new offensive coordinator to help their young quarterback play better. In his first two seasons, Pickett has played in 24 games. He has completed 446 passes out of 713 attempts, gaining 4,474 yards. He has also made 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. In 2023, he made progress by throwing fewer interceptions, but didn’t score as many touchdowns as before, only throwing six and four interceptions in 12 games.

It’s worth mentioning that Kenny Pickett played only one and a half games without Canada as the OC. He had one of his best performances in a full game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12. The offense finally broke the 400-yard mark, ending a drought that lasted for many seasons. Mason Rudolph played really well in two games, scoring 30 or more points in each game. This made it harder for Pickett to get back in the game after his surgery and put more pressure on his career.
A new coach with a new way of playing offense could really help him improve.
