Sacked: This former Utah Jazz guard has been fired as an NBA head coach.
Jacque Vaughn will no longer be the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
Several news sources said on Monday that Vaughn has lost his job, and the Nets confirmed it shortly after.
Vaughn, who is 49 years old, became the head coach of the Nets in November of 2022 when Steve Nash left after coaching for only two years.
Vaughn was named temporary head coach, and it was widely said that the Nets wanted Ime Udoka to replace Nash, but that caused disagreement. Vaughn was made permanent head coach a week later (Udoka is now head coach of the Houston Rockets).
Vaughn was the coach for 75 games and the Nets won 43 games and lost 32 games. In February, soon after Vaughn started working for the Nets, they traded Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns because Durant wanted to go. This caused the Nets to start rebuilding their team.
This year, the Nets have won 21 games and lost 33 games. They are currently 2. 5 games behind the team in the final Play-In spot in the NBAs Eastern Conference.
This was the second time Vaughn coached a team in the NBA. He was the head coach of the Orlando Magic from 2012 to 2015, but then he got fired.
In total, he has won 108 games and lost 193 games as a head coach.
Vaughn was chosen by the Utah Jazz in 1997 and played basketball in the NBA until 2009. After that, he became a coach for the San Antonio Spurs in 2010.
