Massive Decision:New York Giants Make Decisions on Star Running Back and Safety
Whether you are a New York Giants fan or not today the Giants made some really big decisions on star RB Saquon Barkley and Xavier McKinney
The New York Giants’ decision to not tag Saquon Barkley at $12.1 million for 2024 does make some sense. Doing so and not giving him the long-term deal he wants would probably lead to another contract squabble. He’s also going into his seventh year as a running back and has a significant injury history.
Clearly, he’s still the talent he was coming out of Penn State in 2018 a bigger back with the ability to break big plays and be a real threat in the pass game. And someone will value that, especially with a below-average class coming out at the position in the NFL draft, and plenty of personnel folks and coaches still hanging on to their evaluations from six years ago.
The Giants will not be using any tags on safety Xavier McKinney, who will hit the open market what’s next for McKinney.
New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney, who had been rumored to be a candidate for the seldom-used transition tag, will not receive that tag and will hit the open market as a free agent, barring he reaches a new deal with the Giants before the March 13 start of free agency
The Giants, who have an estimated $38.288 million in total cap space, are thought to be planning to add veteran to the offensive line, edge rusher, and defensive backfield.
They will also likely add veteran depth at running back and to the defensive backfield, where at safety, they have third-year player Dane Belton as a potential replacement for McKinney in the starting lineup.
The Giants will be fascinating to monitor this offseason. How they handle free agency and the draft will shed plenty of light on both their short- and long-term plans.
New York Giants plans from here possibilities:
I think that the Giants and DB Xavier McKinney will still stay in contact until March 13th, which is when the Giants have until to make a long term deal before he is set to become a free agent whether a deal with get done or not I am keeping a little of hope left that the Giants will bring Xavier McKinney back or not.
Now the Giants will probably not be able to get Saquon back at this point I think they will try also everything, but he is going to hit the open market and a team will offer him a lot of money and he might take it and it would be a fun 6 year career for him as a New York Giant.
Let’s just hope the Giants can make something magical happen
