Keyshawn Johnson Believes Lakers Can Make An Important Playoff Push
That is the question that was asked on the Monday morning episode of “Undisputed.”
Keyshawn Johnson thinks the answer is yes and believes the team could climb higher in the standings before the playoffs get started in a few weeks.
He referenced Anthony Davis’ monster performance against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night and a couple of other big wins over the last week.
Right now, the Lakers are the ninth seed in the Western Conference.
So if the Play-In Tournament started today, they would be tasked with battling against the tenth-seeded Golden State Warriors.
If they beat them in a game, they would then have to battle the loser of the seventh and eighth-seed game.
That means they would have two obstacles in their way before they could earn entry into the playoffs.
However, if they continue to improve, the Lakers may climb higher in the standings and reach the sixth seed, currently held by the Phoenix Suns.
If that happens they’ll completely bypass the Play-In and also get some much-needed rest at the start of the postseason.
The Suns have a 37-27 record and the Lakers are at 36-30.
Several teams in the West have very similar records and things are very tight, and very fluid too.
With the hard work of Davis, LeBron James, and the rest of the driven, youthful roster, the Lakers really do have a chance of charging up the standings.
Will they be able to reach the sixth seed or will they be relegated to the Play-In Tournament again?
They were in the Play-In last season and went all the way to the Western Conference Finals.
What do this year’s playoffs have in store for them
