Steph Curry was asked to pick the best five-man NBA team in history and left out one huge name
Steph Curry picked an impressive line-up when asked to name his dream NBA starting five.
The Golden State Warriors icon didn’t hesitate when reeling off his choices, either.
Curry picked Shaq – a four-time NBA champion and the league’s Most Valuable Player for the 1999-2000 season – as the centre in his all-time fantasy five, taking advantage of Big Diesel’s 7ft 1ins frame and dominant physical presence.
Then, in the power forward role, Curry chose Tim Duncan.
Nicknamed the ‘Big Fundamental’, Duncan wasn’t the most spectacular player during his 19-year NBA career. But for his defensive prowess, reliable scoring and ability to produce his best displays in the biggest moments, he is regarded as an all-time great.
Duncan spent his whole career with the San Antonio Spurs, spearheading five championship triumphs and twice named MVP.
Curry picked one of his contemporaries for the small forward position, naming LeBron James.
The Los Angeles Lakers icon, at 39 years old, is now in his 22nd NBA season and he starred alongside Curry as the United States claimed the gold medal at the Paris Olympics this past summer.
As his shooting guard, Curry chose Michael Jordan.
Widely considered to be the greatest basketball player in the game’s history, Jordan is a staple selection of any dream line-up. In two spells with the Chicago Bulls, MJ won five MVPs and six titles. With his midrange scoring ability and outstanding defensive skills, the 6ft 6ins guard would have been an ideal backcourt partner for Curry in his prime.
And as his point guard, Curry unsurprisingly chose himself.
The Warriors star is worthy of a spot on his own dream team thanks to two MVPs, four championships and a reputation as the greatest shooter of all time.
But there was one shocking omission from Curry’s line-up.
The 36-year-old three-point king left out Kobe Bryant, a player many of Curry’s fellow NBA stars often rank highly in the GOAT running.
Bryant, who tragically died in a helicopter crash aged 41 in 2020, was a five-time NBA champions with the Lakers.
